Is this the face of a killer?

I happen to know this Muslim very well, and, despite what McCain's campaign asserts, I can assure them that she's not out to kill anyone. As a matter of fact, they might be surprised to learn that she's actually quite peaceful. The most violent I ever see her become is when she attempts Cesar Milan's "don not try this at home" dog tricks. And, this will probably rock McCain and his bigot junta to their core, but she's married to an Israeli, loves Israel and is probably more personally affected by Islamic extremists than those hucksters will ever be. So it's ironic that McCain and his ilk, who love to joke about murdering people like her (e.g. "bomb, bomb, bomb Iran" or poison Iranians), are now claiming that gentle people like my wife are out to get them.

According to the Miami Herald,

One of John McCain's fellow POW's in Vietnam defended the war in Iraq, saying, "The Muslims have said either we kneel or they're going to kill us.''

In a phone call with reporters arranged by Republican Party of Florida, Colonel Bud Day added: "I don't intend to kneel and I don't advocate to anybody that we kneel, and John doesn't advocate to anybody that we kneel.''

Now, I'm not a psychologist, but I did take a few classes in college, and it smells to me like McCain's boy is projecting. Based on this, McCain's history of macabre jokes, and our experiences with rednecks like Bud Day in Florida, if anyone one should be afraid, my wife should fear those people.

So, anyway, my wife will be flummoxed when she learns that a McCain surrogate feels this way about her, and an apology from the presumptive Republican nominee would go a long way to prevent losing any chance for her vote. Given this, Greg Sargent asks a timely question.

According to him,

I asked the campaign whether they agreed with the assertion.

Here's what McCain spokesperson Michael Goldfarb sent me:

"The threat we face is from radical Islamic extremism."

That's okay, John. I guess we both know she would've never voted for you anyway.

Bob, I noticed that you qualified (2.00 / 7)

"cross posted at Daily Kos" with "but I come in peace." You will be pleasantly surprised here when you see that the animosity between DKos and MyDD has almost completely subsided. MyDD is on record as being a central front in the war for party unity. Many of us who migrated here before and during the "great writers strike of March '08," have made this our home, and an overwhelming majority of us have embraced Obama wholeheartedly as our nominee. So come here, often and boldly. You will be warmly welcomed. Now, if I could force myself to move beyond just lurking at DKos...

Nice diary. One of the most despicable aspects of Bush's "war on terror" has been the demonization of all things Muslim. People like Bush and McCain desperately need an "other" to legitimize their warped worldview and, more importantly, to enrich themselves and their corporate allies.

Re: Bob, I noticed that you qualified (2.00 / 2)

When Obama appeared on Larry King show last week the infamous New Yorker cover came up, of course, for comment.  At the end of the discussion, Obama insisted on adding that he felt the demonization of Muslims as shown on this cover was deplorable.  It is one of the greatest costs of shifting the war on terror from the actual terrorist followers of Osama bin Laden to the Muslims of Iraq.

It's always the most beautiful women who are the most dangerous, though...  Haven't you ever seen a James Bond movie?

Your wife is beautiful! And the most powerful reminders that people are people and not demographic blocs based on nationality or any other qualifier (which dehumanizes them) are personal stories like this one. Thanks for sharing it.

Did you know? (2.00 / 2)

Iran has the largest Jewish population in the Mideast outside of Israel.

So I've read.

Wonder why McCain wants to kill all those Jewish people?

Bob, awesome diary.

McCain and the rest of his crazies are ignorant and sheltered. The reason they hate on other cultures is because they dont understand. How can anyone vote for a person who is unwilling to understand those who are different from them-

Wonderful, open, very human diary. A pleasure to read. A pleasure to 'rec.

Blessings to you and your wife, Bob.

One day we'll come to fully realize in this country that demonization is always performed by the demons themselves.

ooooo, that's quotable! (none / 0)

One day we'll come to fully realize in this country that demonization is always performed by the demons themselves.

Is that a RickWn Original?  I'd skip the "in this country" and use it in my sig with attribution if you don't mind?

Re: ooooo, that's quotable! (2.00 / 1)

Heh, heh. That's an original, Chris, far as I know. You're welcome to use the group of words in anyway you wish without attribution.

One note, though. "Demonization" is not in the MyDD dictionary, you'll have to add it to avoid the red-underline.
